When I flew into Denver Monday morning, May 12th, it was snowing. It continued snowing on and off between the time I rode the shuttle and checked into my hotel.
Around 3:30pm I walked a couple blocks to the Civic Center Park for my scheduled interview. I saw the set on the way, and was able to pick out a few of the obstacles: quintuple steps, salmon ladder, cargo net, the warped wall, spider climb, an arched bridge with door knob, and the devil steps.
After checking in with the ANW staff I was setup for my Q/A interview. It was a little odd as I was just standing in front of a camera in the second floor of the building there at the park. I know I rambled a bit, but they only had me repeat a couple lines. Then came the “hero shots”, which were just panoramic video of me standing outside in front of the civic center.
After that was “B role” or action shots out on the grass. I wasn’t all that thrilled since the grass was wet and I was planning on doing tumbling and other martial arts stuff. The camera guy looked bored, and when asked he said he had been filming since 7am. So no wonder, but that still wasn’t encouraging. I did some karate stances, punches, kicks, diving rolls, and spinning crescent kicks.
Since the qualifier round was to take place at night, I went back to the hotel and took a nap. After several hours I went and watched a late night movie (Captain America), then caught some more shuteye.
